March 2011 - I got this wood from a friend as thanks
for setting up a website. This wood is found in West Africa, mainly
in Gabon and Cameroon, gregarious, sometimes in pure stands along
riverbanks. The Tree is a tall tree to 150 ft; bole straight and
cylindrical but relatively short, up to 50 ft; trunk diameters 4 to
5 ft over low buttresses. The heartwood is pale yellow brown with
narrow darker streaks, striping pattern varies considerably; sapwood
is white up to 4 in. wide. This is a distinct wood with texture
medium to coarse, the grain is usually wavy or interlocked, lustrous
and has an unpleasant odor that usually disappears after drying.
